Day 3

Day 3, Wednesday

Most of the kids were present, including Dawn, Jamie and Annie, Scott and Lisa and Lauren and Chelsea.  We weren’t too sure of what kind of positive improvements may be in store.  Up until Day 3 we had physical and mental signs of improvement and what else should we expect.  So we kept in mind that no slips backwards would be signs of improvement.

So we were pleased to say the least, that Skip opened his right eye just as wide as his left.  He was paying pretty good attention to all of us and answered all of the Nurses questions.  Again, he was showing some of his feisty self, by trying to get the IV’s and other stuff off of him, along with trying to kick his leg over the bed and get out of there!  Who can blame him though…

By days end, the family assessment was that it was another positive day.  Skip had some small signs of physical improvement, a bit more movement with the left side of his body, like his foot and his hand.  His right side of his face seemed to not be droopy and his color was great.  He seemed to be a bit lethargic and tired but we were still happy and encouraged.  We were especially encouraged when, the MD’s recommendation was to move him from the ICU to a “Monitor room” where the ratio is roughly 1 nurse to 4-5 patients.  By the evening time, both Lisa, Annie and Dawn were at the hospital with kids and Skip seemed to be doingwell and was wide eyed for a while around mid evening.  Again, an encouraging evening.

The day closed great!  Both Lauren and Chelsea were updating Skip on the American Idol TV Show and because he and my mom love the show, it was some lighthearted and well needed support and love from the Grandkids!
